Research

The first product I chose that caught my attention for product shot advertisement, is this shot of a OnePlus phone series, all are sitting on small blocks that are an off-white, pink, cream colour. There seems to be possibly more than one light source for this shot, as the shadows of the phones are in different positions. The phones all being matt type texture there is no major shine reflection from the shot also.

For my second photo, I chose this Coke can product shot. In the photo you can see that there is a black shiny reflective surface used for this, seeing the reflection under the can, water droplets on the can give it that cool look. As well as many light sources, there seems to be light from the right and on top. To shadow out the brand name, something blocking the light is blocking it from casting over the whole product.

For my final image that caught my eye was of this coke bottle image pouring upside down. With the use of photoshop this type of shot can be achieved. Lighting used seems to be directly aimed at the product from above as you can see the shine from the bottle. The background is plain and off-white, with an old 80’s tone to it. Coke Light, given the name that its so light it will define gravity. Smart and image manipulation product shots are great to catch people’s eye.

The images below are research shots for the project that I put together, showing a few set up ideas also.

Who is the client, or company you are representing?

The company I am representing for my product shot is Hugo Boss. The fashion company originally German, founded in 1924 by Hugo Boss also produce fragrances as well as footwear and clothing.

What is the product?

The product I will be photographing is the Hugo Boss “Boss in Motion” fragrance. The ball design is a shiny matt finish with an orange line through it and minimal logo brand name on it. This is one of a few colours they have released for the fragrance.

Who is the target audience?

The target audience for my photoshoot is aimed at anyone who wants a classy luxury product and who is on the go a lot. This is also suitable and highly durable for on the go to throw into a bag to the gym or work. As the glass bottle is protected by the silver plastic shell.

Where would you expect to see this advertisement?

You would see this type of advertisement everywhere almost, on billboard posters, magazines, tv ads and on media sites. Celebs like Chris Hemsworth campaigns for the product in its ads.

What kind of lighting are you going to use to make this look professional? What props do you need?

The props and type of lighting I will be using includes a glass frame from a picture, a lamp with an orangey coloured bulb as my key light. A small white/blue coloured torch as a secondary light source to add a light spot on the product, or behind it. I will use my bathtub as a base as it is all white and the bright light from the room will help bounce light around. I will try use water as an added effect in for the shoot also.

Develop

Experiment products

Before deciding on the final product that I used for the shoot I experimented on using my phone, the phone is an almond/gold colour that is shiny, the difficulty in shooting shiny products is reflection of lighting and the camera being seen easily and the surrounding props in shot
